In NLP many major techniques involve anchoring, where you associate a certain state to a specific trigger. Just like when you hear a certain piece of music and you find yourself in a particular state – you can use this natural way we connect emotions to triggers.
The basic steps to anchoring are:
Get into an intense emotional state
Apply a unique trigger and release it at the peak of the state
Break the state
Test that the state has been anchored by applying the unique trigger
The anchors can be in any modality – feeling, visual, auditory, taste or smell
