Everybody has dreams, but how often do people lose sight of their dreams, or never do anything about them.
I remember back about 20 years ago attending an NLP Practitioner course, back in the days when NLP training was relatively new and seeing truly astonishing transformations in people. One trainer, Lara Ewings was so elegant in her presentation and I had a dream to be able to work with people like that.
However, the idea of being in front of a group of people talking, let alone doing amazing change work, truly terrified me!
I found it scary just introducing myself to a group of people!
Now I’m presenting several NLP courses every year – in fact over the last 15 years I must have run close to 100 NLP Practitioner courses.
That’s a massive change – I mean it used to seem like an unreachable dream, but it’s now reality.
I really know now that dreams can become real when we put the work in.
And it’s really about focusing on excellence and never giving up.
With so many reality shows giving people the idea your dreams can be made real with no effort, some people seem to give up too easily on their dreams if it takes too much work.
But just look around at some of the most successful people in life – it took them years to get there, but through persistence it paid off!
Some of the most successful actors struggled for years and years before getting their ‘break’ – for example Harrison Ford and Sylvester Stallone are just 2 examples.
So the question is, if you have dreams, how important are they to you?
Will you be prepared to make sacrifices along the way to achieve them?
How committed are you to achieving them?
Start by following these steps
1 Be really clear about what you want – make sure you frame it positively and be specific
2 Write down lots of reasons WHY you want it – why is it so important to have this outcome
Finding your purpose for achieving your outcome will help you drive your behaviours. All of our actions are motivated by emotions. These emotions are to do with our values – the things that are most important to us – those things that drive our behaviour – the things we are willing to invest our time energy and resources into either having or avoiding.
3 What is the first step you can take action on NOW! Don’t leave it until it is the right time! It may never seem to be the ‘right’ time. If you really want to make your dreams become real, you need to start now.
Internal conflict is one of the biggest reasons that we don’t take action on our outcomes – where one thing is important, but then other things seem to pull us in other directions.
Fear also can stop us from taking action.
NLP training is one of the most powerful ways I have found to take action – as I said, I’d never be doing what I’m doing now if it wasn’t for investing in taking an NLP Practitioner course.
