Sometimes clients present issues with the structure of a double bind – recently there was someone who wanted to attend the NLP training because she was tired with attending long therapy and was looking for quicker results. However during the training when we introduced the submodality belief change intervention and someone changed a limiting belief in a matter of minutes, she came to me and said that they didn’t believe it was really true because you cannot change that quickly! So they presented the desire to change quickly, however when the reality of rapid change was presented, they presented disbelief.
Sometimes people have a lot of secondary gain on holding onto their problems, and when the thought of change is presented as a real possibility, they unconsciously start to resist.
During our NLP trainings, people have the experience of rapid change and this can often be a major jolt to their beliefs about what is possible.
